Overview
Looking back and moving forward! Retrosonic is a classic without the wait. The shells are hand selected walnut and outfitted with the unique Retrosonic full-length tube lugs and Sonic Saver hoops. With a Walnut Burl veneer finish, it comes as a simple and elegant three-piece set-up that’s reminiscent of drum-building tradition from another age. Only 100 of these individual set-ups will be available worldwide (30 in the UK).
The Retronic was only available in one configuration - 12"x8", 16"x16", 22"x16" and came with a snare stand for the 12"x8" as the shell has no tom bracket. As with most Black Panther kits this didn't come with a snare as standard, although an awful lot of owners seems to have ordered the matching snare in one of the two sizes that were available (the 6.5" only for a limited time) to match the retro aesthetic.
Note that although the photo of Glen Goldring's Retrosonic shows two floor toms, that's because one was damaged in transit. Mapex made a replacement but allowed the him to keep the original. Luckily it was a clean crack and according to Glen it "glued up great". Win-Win!
