In creating the Orion series we at Mapex first thoroughly researched existing full-length, high tension lugs. While better tuning availability was always cited, many were concerned over teh loss of sound with this type of heavy metal lug mounted directly to the drum shells deadening the sound. Thus was born the idea of the Mapex "Freedom" lug. "Freedom" lugs are full length, high tension lugs that are mounted 4mm away from the shells to provide maximum resonance. Only two contact points attach"Freedom" lugs to the shell and these are insulated by a poly barrier washer.
