Overview
Ok - here we go again. Another snare listed on eBay in Japan, with no details and no backstory from Shimano San or anyone else...yet.
Spotted by Tim O'Neal in February 2022 (thanks Tim!) who wondered if I'd seen it before.
Nope - new one on me!
I have sent a message to the seller in Osaka, Japan (jpinstrumental*store) to ask for more details and premission to use their photos, but so far, no reply. To be honest, this isn't unusual - I know my Japanese isn't going to win awards, but it's not that bad! Despite trying really hard to get it right and be respectful however, I rarely get replies from Japanese eBay sellers.
Ah well, 仕方がないね！
The snare does look like a Mapex Japan/Beyond Shimano creation, so I'll ask if Shimano San remembers it. Not sure about the massive Black Panther sticker/plaque though - that doesn't look original to me.
Later update
Got a reply from Shimano San. According to him, this is an early Taiwanese Mapex made in roughly 1995, and therefore not a Mapex/Beyond Shimano collaboration. There you go - that solves that problem.
