These replaced the ubiquitous circular vent covers in the 2010 refresh, bringing more of a design aesthetic to what was previously quite a utilitarian piece of hardware. Also, after 2015 some models started coming with multiple vents, e.g. the Wraith, rather than the single vent on all models with a circular vent cover.
