Overview
Details are still a little sketchy on this model, but the clever money is on it being a Thomann special edition, like (going by the badge) its slightly earlier), glossier twin with the die-cast hoops.
It was brought to my attention in September 2022 by Doral Vintila from Sweden. He bought it in 2020 from another drummer but didn't find out where it was bought from originally. He wondered if it was a Thomann Special Edition and I have to agree - it certainly looks like one, given the Saturn strainer. I'm still doing a bit of digging to get further information, but I've included it in the Thomann section until I learn otherwise.
Going by the later Black Panther badge in combination with low-mass lugs, I'm estimating a build date of 2012-13.
Update: There is some controversy over the shell construction on this one. After doing some digging on the Wayback Machine, I found this listing from 2013. It looks exactly like this model (see photos below) and states that it's a Birch shell. I sent Doral's photos to Gareth Heeley of Highwood Drums (who has forgotten more about wood and building drums than I'll ever know!) and he said that it could be maple or birch as it's difficult to tell from the available shots. Given that the only catalogue item I can find that matches says it's birch, I have reclassified from maple to birch until shown evidence to the contrary (Feb 2023).
