Mapex Black Panther

The greatest snares in the world, with hundreds of models and styles to suit every possible music taste.

The goal of this project is to document every Black Panther that's ever existed. Think Pokédex® for Mapex Black Panther Snares.

Do you have a Mapex Black Panther? Have you got any photos you'd be willing to let me use on this site? Then get in touch! It doesn't matter whether it's a standard catalogue item or a super rare "unicorn" snare. I don't mind if it's new in box or if it's in its twilight years and showing the battle scars (aren't we all!?). If you're happy to share your shots, then I'm happy to celebrate your baby on the site.

Black Panther Kits

Big Cat Family groups...

When the Black Panther series was launched in the late 1990s, Mapex produced snares to match their top end Orion kits. A year after the range refresh in 2010, someone had the idea of turning that on its head and producing kits to match the new snares.

Starting with the Velvetone and Blaster, the range has developed over the years to produce some of the world's most aspirational kits.

Orion & Saturn Snares

Brothers from Another Mother /
Sisters from Another Mister

Produced to match Mapex Orion and Saturn Kits, these snares are Black Panthers in all but badge; same hardware, same quality construction. They deserve the same love and attention. I mean - just look at these random examples!

I'm fully aware, however, that they aren't technically Black Panthers, so think of them as being invited to the party, but just in an adjacent room you don't need to visit if you don't want to! ?

Mapex Catalogues
